The thing is a fansub group may do more research, like being familiar with the manga and how the fanbase already adopted some phrases or names or dedicate more of their time to proof read - they don't have tight schedules like simulcasts and they take a few series at once not the whole crunchyroll lineup.

If you're talking recent anime, there's not much difference anymore, as "fansubs" by groups like Commie, Chihiro, Doki, FFF, Vivid, and the like are just edits.

21 Awall00777 • 3 yr. ago I feel like if streaming services like funimation and vrv and crunchyroll don't have an anime, the only other choice is to spend tonnes of money on the dvd. It's like £50 a year for funimation but 1 or 2 dvds can easily beat that. I'm against pirating unless it's the only practical option.

For older shows, Exiled-Destiny is my go to. Some-stuffs is really good if you watch JoJo's or Pokemon. For seasonal shows, I'll almost always grab a fansub group over erai/subsplease (crunchyroll subs). Asenshi is particularly good, though their BD encodes aren't always the best. Also good for seasonal shows are GJM and Doki.

Bad editors on Wikipedia are criticized when they break the work of good editors or violate the neutrality principle. This is not something relevant for fansubs, so the fact that they are not getting paid should pretty much give them a free pass. There are other valid arguments against bad fansubs, but comparing them to professionals seems unfair.
